What is Fractured Bugs?
Fractured Bugs is a community-run public bug tracker for "Fractured Space" by Edge Case Games.
What is it for?
Fractured Bugs acts as a central place for players to report bugs they encounter in the game.
Why not just use the forum?
Forums are great for feedback, suggestions, and discussions. However bug reports often get buried in long posts and are harder to find. With a bug tracker, bug information tends to be a lot more concise and structured, and can make life a bit easier for developers thanks to filters, etc.
Do developers support public bug trackers?
Many indie developers use public bug trackers. Some are run by the developers themselves, others are run by the community, but have developers participating. The Planetside 2 Public Issue Tracker is a nice example of a very active community-run bug tracker.
Edge Case Games have plans to setup their own public bug tracker, but are currently busy with more important things like getting the game ready for Early Access. Meanwhile Fractured Bugs has stepped up to fill the gap, endorsed by Edge Case Games. ECG developers have full admin access to this bug tracker. When their own system is ready to be deployed, they will get a copy of the Fractured Bugs database, so they can pick up right where we left. The Fracture Bugs domain will then redirect to the ECG hosted tracker.
So how does it work?
Quite simply, really. After registering an account and logging in, click the "Report Issue" button in the header area. On the next page select the category that fits the bug best, Write a short summary/title, and of course the full description, and you´re done.
You can also attack screenshots, logfiles, etc., select a severity and priority, too, if you want to.
If a bug you want to report is already listed, simply open it by clicking in the ID, and add your own information as a note. This way the devs get all the information in one place, which makes things a lot easier.
Can I log in using my ECG forum account?
Not at the moment. Fractured Bugs in community-run and uses a webserver and database independant from ECG. If you want to report a bug here, you have to register a account first.
What do the different colours / status names mean?
When a bug is reported the default status is "Open".
When multiple users have added notes to an open bug confirming its existence, the status is changed to "confirmed".
"Feedback needed" usually means that the devs are working on the bug but could use additional information, like ways to reliably reproduce the bug. If you have more information, simply add it as a note to the bug.
The status is changed to "Tracked" if a developer has officially acknowledged that ECG is internally tracking / working on the problem.
A bug is marked as "Resolved" if a developer has somewhere stated that the problem is fixed (for example a forum post saying "XYZ should be fixed in the next patch"). These things should be checked by the community to make sure no bug slipped through and the problem is really solved.
When a bug was marked as "Resolved" and is confirmed to be fixt by the players, the status is changed to "Closed". Another job well done!
